Bees

Our bees are a blend of Carniolan (native to Slovania) and Italian. Their superior genetics offer longevity, mild temperament, and optimal honey production in Northern latitudes. We obtained the queens and hives from a local apiary, in Western Pennsylvania to ensure that the bees are well adapted to the climate. We closely tend to 8 hives at Benedictine Farm and harvest the honey in July and September.

In Ancient Greece, bees were referred to as birds, “birds of the muses”. The muses; goddesses of Art, Poetry and Music , like the bees, offered sweetness in life ; vitality from the Divine, heavenly realm. Their gifts too, mirrored the mystery of God. The invisible essence of life manifest in agriculture.

Bees partake in the art of musica mundana . A recent study shows that when a bees approaches a flower, the flower “hears” or feels the vibrations of the bees’ wings and the sugar content of the nectar rises.
